PROFINET device model
These concepts define how your device is represented to a PROFINET controller in the GSDML file:
Device structure
Modules: Functional building blocks of your device.
Submodules: I/O channels and parameters within each module.
Placement in the PROFINET structure
Slots: Positions where each module appears in the PROFINET device structure.
Subslots: Positions where each submodule appears inside its module.
Types of data exchange
Cyclic data: Process data exchanged continuously during operation.
Acyclic data: Parameters and diagnostics exchanged on demand.
How the controller uses the PROFINET structure
The controller reads the structure from the GSDML file and uses it to interpret the PROFINET interface of the device during communication.
